Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - The instant classic about why some ideas thrive, why others die, and how to improve your idea's chances--essential reading in the "fake news" era。

Mark Twain once observed, "A lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can even get its boots on。" His observation rings true: Urban legends, conspiracy theories, and bogus news stories circulate effortlessly。 Meanwhile, people with important ideas--entrepreneurs, teachers, politicians, and journalists--struggle to make them "stick。"

In Made to Stick, Chip and Dan Heath reveal the anatomy of ideas that stick and explain ways to make ideas stickier, such as applying the human scale principle, using the Velcro Theory of Memory, and creating curiosity gaps。 Along the way, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds--from the infamous "kidney theft ring" hoax to a coach's lessons on sportsmanship to a vision for a new product at Sony--draw their power from the same six traits。

Made to Stick will transform the way you communicate。 It's a fast-paced tour of success stories (and failures): the Nobel Prize-winning scientist who drank a glass of bacteria to prove a point about stomach ulcers; the charities who make use of the Mother Teresa Effect; the elementary-school teacher whose simulation actually prevented racial prejudice。

Provocative, eye-opening, and often surprisingly funny, Made to Stick shows us the vital principles of winning ideas--and tells us how we can apply these rules to making our own messages stick。

What sticks most from this book is "The curse of knowledge。" So many of the concepts presented many of us know intellectually but this book lays them out so practically, it has even made me rethink the ways I try and teach my children。 This book is simple but not dumbed down, just as the authors suggest ideas should be。 What sticks most from this book is "The curse of knowledge。" So many of the concepts presented many of us know intellectually but this book lays them out so practically, it has even made me rethink the ways I try and teach my children。 This book is simple but not dumbed down, just as the authors suggest ideas should be。 。。。more

Nice book with great ideas。 I like how the authors guide readers into making their ideas stick by focusing on 6 qualities: simplicity, unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility, emotional and story。The part that I really admire is the last few pages that discusses how a teacher can benefit from these to make it easier to transfer their ideas to their students。What I did not like / struggled with, is that while reading the book I sometimes lose focus while the aithor is discussing an example that Nice book with great ideas。 I like how the authors guide readers into making their ideas stick by focusing on 6 qualities: simplicity, unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility, emotional and story。The part that I really admire is the last few pages that discusses how a teacher can benefit from these to make it easier to transfer their ideas to their students。What I did not like / struggled with, is that while reading the book I sometimes lose focus while the aithor is discussing an example that supports their ideas! It could be because these examples are attractive! Anyways, this is a very good book, especially for teachers, professors and managers and I highly recommend it。 。。。more

This is such a great resource for anyone who wants to convey ideas—and don’t we all? I loved the examples, how they used what they were teaching within the book, but also bringing in outside case studies, etc。

Great writing approach to an informational book。 Never got bored of reading。 10/10 would recommend。

memorable!I loved that the stories illustrated the themes in the book。 The clinics were a great way to see good and bad examples。 And I found myself testing my memory of the SUCCES principles。 As a teacher, I really appreciated the teaching examples!

I didn’t even finish it all, but what I did read really stuck with me! Will read again…

good book, simple concept overallLike many books of this nature, it’s 250 pages to explain simple concepts。 But it keeps it interesting and drives the point home。

Simple, easy account The psychology of these approaches are better explored elsewhere (eg Nudge by Thaler and Sunstein) but for practitioners there are good simple guidelines to put into practice

When a book focuses on how to improve the way you communicate, it needs to be able to communicate that message well, and this one does the job very well。It takes the concept of stickiness from Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point, and builds an easy to remember framework / checklist you can use to help make your messages easier to understand and more memorable。 It’s very much in the style of Gladwell’s books (also Daniel H Pink) as an easy to read and understand view of psychology, marketing and When a book focuses on how to improve the way you communicate, it needs to be able to communicate that message well, and this one does the job very well。It takes the concept of stickiness from Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point, and builds an easy to remember framework / checklist you can use to help make your messages easier to understand and more memorable。 It’s very much in the style of Gladwell’s books (also Daniel H Pink) as an easy to read and understand view of psychology, marketing and life in general。 Each factor that helps make a piece of communication - simplicity, unexpectedness, credibility, concreteness, emotional and story-driven - gets its own chapter。 Each is discussed with a mix of references to scientific and psychological studies and anecdotes and studies from real life examples。 That mostly works very well, though a few times, the examples they used felt a little weak especially where trying to attribute a particular outcome to one of their communication factors。 They make the odd big mental leap without giving all the information, and you find yourself questioning that there were many other factors that could also have caused that outcome。 That, plus the heavy American bias of the examples and research probably stops me from giving this full marks。 In the afterward, they mention this was an international version of the book, and non-US examples had been added afterwards, but these seemed to be maybe only 10% to 20% of the examples, with only Australian and Japanese examples sticking out, and no European based examples I can remember。 A bit more cultural and geographic diversity in the examples, and I would have been won over completely。 But as a guide to make you think differently about communication tasks, it’s a great read, it gave me lots of food for though。 Lots of lessons to learn that you could use in different situations, especially good if you work in a job that involves communications or marketing。Definitely worth a read。 。。。more

Interesting book with some valuable takeaways but overall a lot of examples to keep reiterating the same points over and over。 I think the book could have been condensed further but maybe some people need the various examples? Otherwise easy reading。

Some interesting stories and case studies but that’s just about it。 I found it terribly boring and couldn’t get past the second chapter。 You are better of reading the summary of what makes ideas stick which you can get from the content page。

This book sticks! Very insightful and entertaining。 What I liked most about this books is the author’s attention to trigger immediate action。

Pretty good read, but I’m not sure what the application is at this point in my life。 Overall, it is fairly interesting and very readable。 The main concept is that “sticky ideas” are simple, unexpected, concrete, credible, emotional, and stories。 The traits of sticky ideas can be used as a checklist to evaluate whether an idea will stick or diagnosis why an idea isn’t sticking。

Deivis

Lleno de tips buenosEl libro va al grano, ninguna idea se repite y va reforzando lo que aprendes en cada capítulo。 Definitivamente todo creador de contenido debe leerlo。
